Election Season and Climate Voting
Hi Friends and Family,
With just 38 days before the 2024 Presidential Election, our news feeds and community yard signs are filled with plenty of reminders of the importance of our votes. I’ll try not to be an echo chamber for the resources and information you are likely already aware of, but given the impact this election will have on our global path to a sustainable future, I would be remiss if I didn’t share at least one update about the work in this arena.

Most Important: Register and Vote
I’m assuming everyone reading this is registered vote and has their voting plan. If you’re not sure, please take a moment to check at vote.gov. It will direct you to the specifics for your state. In Texas the voter registration deadline is Oct 7, but it does vary by state. If you want to help with the last minute push to register voters, the startup I worked with in 2020, Civitech, has relaunched their Voter Fundmap, providing an easy way you can help fund voter registration efforts.
Vote early and encourage others to do the same.
Help Other Climate Voters
Perplexingly, less frequent voters often rank climate change as a higher priority issue than frequent voters. The Environmental Voter Project is a nonpartisan organization that is working to change this. This podcast interview on Volts with their founder gives a great overview of their work. You can find ways you can help get out the vote on their website as well.
Get More Involved
For another interview with three organizations that can help you make a difference this election cycle, listen to the MCJ Podcast episode titled: Navigating the Climate Vote. Included are:
Climate Change Makers: An advocacy network that includes resources, an online community, and volunteer events to help support candidates that support climate policy.
Climate Cabinet: If you don’t have time to volunteer but want to make sure your money goes to the most impactful local elections, check out Climate Cabinet. They’ve done all the research to find the climate champions that need the most help.
The League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund also does important work nationally to support candidates in races that will help make sure the policy we need to protect our environment.
Protecting our environment and climate stability should be something we can all agree on without having to take political sides. If you are more politically conservative, there are organizations you can get involved with as well. I encourage you to check out the Citizens’ Climate Lobby and the American Conservation Coalition if none of the organizations above resonate for you.
Many of the climate solutions that I share in my posts would not be possible without the policy and funding made available by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed under the Biden administration. I hope the American public agrees with me in wanting to continue this progress towards climate success. Join me in doing anything you can in the next month to make that happen.
Thanks, Corey
