50for50: My birthday celebration and demonstration

Next month, I’ll be celebrating a major life milestone: my 50th birthday. I don’t want to let a significant occasion pass without taking the opportunity to divert attention to something I believe deserves it more than me. After putting some thought into what would align with my values and quirky desire to always challenge myself to do hard things, I’ve decided to celebrate my birthday by demonstrating for 50 hours while sharing 50 climate facts that are indisputable and important for the general public to know. I’m calling it “50 FACTS for 50 Hours” and I’ve created a simple site to share my plans and updates: 50for50.earth.
I need help in many ways and I invite all of you to join me in this demonstration. I will start on my birthday, September 4th, and continue into the weekend, but there’s a lot of work to do before then. You can make my 50for50 birthday demonstration meaningful and successful by contributing in the way that leverages your talent, time, and treasures that you see most fit.
JOIN ME: If you're in the Austin area, feel free to join me during any portion of the 50 hours to hear the facts I will be sharing in public. I'm planning on being at and around the Texas State Capitol grounds speaking with anyone who will listen. I also hope that people with more knowledge than me will help share facts in their area of expertise.
LEARN AND SHARE: If you can't join me in person, please take time to read the 50 facts that I'll share on the site. Dive into the resources linked from each of the facts and share the information with others.
TAKE ACTION: If you'd like to take action in your own community, use the information and plans that I share to advocate and spread the word to others.
MAKE A GIFT: If you can't do any of these, consider making a donation in honor of my birthday to a non-profit organization that is driving solutions to the climate crisis. I'll update my take action page with links to those organizations soon.
I'm still in the process of curating all of these facts I'll be using. On 50for50.earth, I have a short form where you can submit ideas on facts or if you'd like to participate in other ways.
I'm also going to need some help spreading the word. This is a public campaign to raise awareness, and I would love to get in touch with more people than just those who see me in person. If you have any contacts who would be interested in learning more about what I'm doing, please pass this along to them.
Organizing this demonstration is the best way to celebrate the 50 years I’ve been on this planet and ensure that we’ll make progress in the next 50 years in protecting the wellness and prosperity of all living beings on the planet. While facts alone will not convince naysayers to take action, by surfacing these facts, I can equip others with foundational material that allows them to tell more effective stories. We have all the technology and solutions we need to solve the climate crisis. What we need now is the public discourse and commitment to create a sustainable and prosperous society.
